Patch 5.3 WeakAuras Configuration

Since 5.2, I’ve made a few modifications to my WeakAuras configuration.  Nothing major, but definitely some quality-of-life improvements.

One option that WeakAuras lacks is the ability to set a trigger based on Spell ID and time remaining.  You can do one or the other, but not both – as soon as you chose “Use Full Scan” to filter by Spell ID you lose the ability to check duration.  This makes it impossible to create a warning aura to tell you that Sacred Shield is about to expire with the default UI.  The best you can do is alert yourself that the buff has already expired, which is too late.

Luckily, pvita has written a custom trigger to fix that.  He built his indicator with differently-colored shields; I’ve more or less just taken the trigger and used it to make the Sacred Shield icon “bounce” whenever you have less than 8 seconds left.  I’ve also moved it to the left of the Weakened Blows icon and made it larger so that it’s a little more obnoxious (and thus, easier to notice).

Sucellus over at Light’s Hammer also noted that it isn’t just Vengeance we care about for Sacred Shield, we also care about overall attack power.  And there happen to be several nice haste trinkets with strength procs this tier, so it’s worth adjusting for that.  I’ve incorporated his attack power modifications into my own auras, so now they record overall attack power.  I’ve also added it to the Vengeance display for consistency.  Since that made it harder to see exactly how much of that contribution is from Vengeance, I modified it to give both values in the format “Attack Power (Vengeance)”.  For example, “50k (0k)” would mean you have 50k attack power, none of which comes from Vengeance.

Finally, Reverde asked if it would be worth tracking haste as well, since Sacred Shield scales very well with haste.  He pointed out that in many cases it wouldn’t be worth over-writing a Sacred Shield cast near the end of Bloodlust unless the attack power change was very significant.  So I’ve added a spell-haste-tracker for Sacred Shield as well.  You can see what these modifications look like in the YouTube video below:

I’m not sure why the videos didn’t record with sound this time, but it’s not worth going back and re-uploading just for that.

I’ve also been playing a priest alt pretty heavily, so I finally have auras to share for Shadow and Atonement/Discipline.  They look something like this:

I think I also updated the Rogue auras from level 85 to 90, though I don’t play that character heavily so they’re still fairly barebones.  I believe I made slight modifications to the Warlock auras as well, but I honestly can’t remember what they were.

WordPress is finicky about text boxes containing large strings, so all of my Auras are hosted at Pastebin.  Here are direct links to the two WeakAuras strings used in my tanking UI:

Theck – Prot – Priority Row

Theck – Prot – Cooldowns Row

Theck – Prot – Vengeance / SS text indicators

And of course all of my auras can be found by browsing my Pastebin account:

When i was updating my auras with your new changes i realized that the pastebin of the cooldowns has the content of the priorities. Can you fix it? i’m eager to try the changes and adapt a little your auras.

  2. Mechaninja says:

The paladin – protection – priority and priest – any are linked together in the long list.

Thanks for this Theck. Really, really helps for my alts.

  3. vg365 says:

    Thanks again,
Haste tracking seens to be a good idea.

If the tooltip doesnt lie sacred shield is based on spell power.
    Sacred shield absorb value = 343 + 1.17 * holy spell power

Numbers on UI will be similar and that aura will work with Holy Off-Spec,

    • Theck says:

For prot though, the two are linked. I don’t have a Holy off-spec, so I don’t know if refreshing Sacred Shield during procs is a common thing or not, but it’s probably far less important since they won’t see the same types of fluctuations we do with Vengeance.

  4. Steve says:

What is the combat text addon you are using? Having crits and normal hits separate is interesting.

  5. Charlemagne says:

Theck, I know you don’t play resto druid but do you have anyone that uses WA’s that is a resto druid that could post there strings here.

  6. Zaeron says:

I have what may be a dumb question. I’ve been following your blog since I first started tanking, and I really liked the haste build. I liked it so much that I essentially went whole-hog for it. At this point, I’m wearing essentially a full set of retribution gear – at ilevel 519 I’ve got 11k haste rating, 5k mastery, and less than 2k total between parry and dodge. I’m also running at nearly ~750k raid buffed HP. (Obviously, I’m also hit/expertise capped.)

Am I overdoing the haste thing? Or, more importantly – is stacking even more haste still the right choice?

I definitely feel like my stamina is in a good place. I’ve been gemming for haste, because DPS is a bigger roadblock for my guild than me dying at the moment – is this logical?

    • Theck says:

Yep, you’re not alone. Once your stamina feels comfortable (and hit/exp cap attained, obviously), stack haste to the sky. Well, at least to 50%, at which point things get funky. But I don’t think we’ll hit that in T15.

  7. Kalsam says:

“This makes it impossible to create a warning aura to tell you that Sacred Shield is about to expire with the default UI.”

If you just type in the name, instead of the exact Spell ID, you end up with a two part aura that will count down the time, then refill to empty quickly for the last shield.

The string for mine (Just make sure to go in and change the name under the trigger.):

It may not be the most optimal overall, but I’ve found it works fairly well.

    • Theck says:

The problem I have with that aura is that it can be a little misleading. If I glance down at it and see it read “5,” I don’t know whether that’s five seconds left on the long-term buff or five seconds left on the short-term buff.

And remember, that difference matters. Since SS works like a DoT/HoT, you don’t get the first bubble until one tick in. So if you wait for the final bubble of the previous cast to expire, you’re guaranteeing about 6 seconds with no bubble. Whereas if you refresh it within the last tick of the 30-second buff, you never get that downtime.

      • Kalsam says:

Odd that I didn’t get the notification on a reply until now. And I didn’t think to check due to too much on my plate.
I may just be used to seeing it flick over to that final 5 seconds now and that sorta alerts me to watch it. *shrugs* Figured I’d share it anyway in case it sparked any further ideas on possibly making one that works.

  8. Kalsam says:

    Sorry, didn’t realize that it wouldn’t auto-wrap the text. Each line is connected to the previous;

  9. David says:

Everything looks really small on my monitor. Is there an easy way to resize the icons? I was adjusting the x and y offsets. This seems really tedious. Is there a shortcut to resizing and moving the icons

    • Theck says:

Not that I know of. But they should all be 25-40 pixels wide or so by default. I use a 24″ monitor with 1920×1080 resolution though, I’m not sure how that looks on a smaller screen.

    • Theck says:

Actually I take that back – if you highlight multiple icons in the left side bar, you can change all of their properties at once. That should let you modify all of their sizes in one fell swoop, but you’ll probably still have to shift them around individually.

So I got bored, and while it’s an extreme WIP, I used your Blood String to modify it for Frost, showing a Mogu potion timer, Pillar of Frost timer, Ghoul Timer, and Healthstone(ran out of ideas), once I figure this thing out(I’ve only used it for about an hour after seeing your string), I’ll throw in a KM proc trigger for Obliterate and Soul Reaper with t15, Also, I got the presences swapped to Frost, however I can’t seem to get your Rune Strike GCD trigger swapped over to Frost Strike, thus why it looks a bit wonky. Let me know what you think :).

I’m allowed at least one mulligan for that, durp.

      • Theck says:

Thanks, I’ll look at it as soon as I have time (no frost spec on my DK to test it with at the moment). DId you want me to try and fix up some of those issues for you when I get to it?

        • Umm, my main thing is Frost Strike’s GCD wasn’t working, it wouldn’t swap from Rune Strike to Frost Strike, there might be some other cosmetics that you might want to change, or move around, but it works pretty well for what I need. I’ll do some more tweaking. I might switch your blood vengeance stack to a Blood DK absorb shield aura, or just run it directly under vengeance, maybe with the icon and absorb amount inside the icon.

  11. Update-After checking around, and searching for how to get it to work I found a semi-working solution for Blood Shield showing(I say semi, because it fully works, but me being a uniformity whore I hate that the text isn’t centered and so it spills out onto your diseases which….UGH UNIFORMITY), so without further ado

All I did was take the Death Strike Icon, delete the cooldown timer(I use magicrunes so it’s a bit redundant to show a CD for it), and replace the initial icon with a custom trigger that I got from Shinu from this thread
    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1220005-Weak-Auras-all-in-one/page4)
So, if you want to mess around with it, there’s a way to work DK absorb amounts into your current Blood DK string :).

  12. Ok promise I won’t spam the comments section(sry!), but I have a second option for incorporating Blood Shield Absorb shields to your weakauras without compromising the look, I set it up as a text to go right underneath your Vengeance amounts, so now when you Death Strike a number will come up, corresponding to the absorb amount.

  13. Drew says:

I’ve been playing with your SS monitors at the dummies, and it seems that if I have dancing steel, mogu power and my zandalari warrior up, I cast SS, then my wpn/trinket procs and potion fall off, but the tracker still stays green. The White tracker doesn’t even appear if I don’t have any vengeance, is this working as intended or did I mess something up?
