Agility, Tanking Gear and Ana’s Inbox

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve heard. Agility gear on tanks is officially dead.

Death Knights, paladins, and warriors no longer receive any bonus to their chance to dodge from Agility. Their base chance to dodge is now a fixed 5%.

Dear god, what a confusing change! Tanks, whatever shall we do? Good thing I get approximately 200 emails per day from expert tankadin Meloree who is happy to explain these complex theorycrafting matters.

I’ve figured out why agility doesn’t affect plate tanks anymore.

Mel’s strength wearing all the special magic awesome plate is 21.5 times his strength naked. But the character jumps the same height regardless, so the weight of the armor must cancel out the added strength. Therefore, tank plate weighs approximately 4000lbs.

It doesn’t matter how agile you are, in 2 tons of armor you can’t dodge shit.

I vote that “dodge rating” be renamed. Dodging doesn’t make sense. You try dodging while wearing a pickup truck.

This is actually surprisingly internally consistent – after all, boss mobs like Nefarian can’t seem to move you around easily – obviously tanks have a lot of mass behind them to prevent punting.

I’m worried that the density implied that all tank armor is made out of depleted uranium, though. Will we be wearing the core of a neutron star in T13?

Always thinking, that one. Always thinking.

I think hunter’s got that already with GiantStalker shoulders. Itty bitty head – Planet sized shoulders!

    • Meloree says:

No strength on hunter gear. It can’t be dense. Those shoulders are filled with hydrogen. Which, again for consistency, explains why hunters blow up so easily when anything touches them.

      • Rigear says:

That would explain what happened during the AQ era on my hunter.

      • Meloree says:

Exactly. It can all be explained. With science.

      • Donthealme says:

Now this all makes sense as to why slower weapons win out(lol broken promise). The real question is with as large as the shield off nef already is, what will we be using for a shield come t13?

      • Meloree says:

It’s density that’s important, not size. It’s fairly easy to establish that the shield weighs roughly 250lbs, based on it’s strength contribution, which implies that it’s made out of fairly dense material.

A better question is: what is it’s volume, and specific density, and which element actually matches that?

I’m pretty certain Mel has been using radioactive armor for a while – maybe that’s why Ret aura does damage. Hopefully heals cure radiation sickness.
